When I’m looking for advice, I immediately seek out other leaders in my field. Personal experience is not only the best way to gain knowledge, it’s also just genuinely more engaging to hear someone else’s story.

What path did our peers take to get them to success, and what challenges did they have to face along that journey?

1. Always come with a solution.

“Most of the things your teammates hear from clients are things that aren’t working or complaints. The question is, what are you doing to fix them? Come to your team with a solution to the problem. Even if it's not the right one, you'll have a starting point to build off of.”

2. Know your worth outside of work.

"Keep things in perspective. You are a person, not the output of your work, so take time to separate yourself from your work. This will help you drop some baggage and hone your focus."

4. Work for your teammates.

"When you're a leader you don’t have people working for you, you work for people. Understand your teammates' motivations the same way you would a customer's, and don't ever take your stress out on them. That kind of toxic environment will always harm your company. Remember your teammates take cues from you, and they'll know if you are irritated or pleased."

5. Be intentional about job fits.

"When it comes to hiring and firing, it’s like a baseball team. If you want to be the shortstop for the Yankees, but the ball keeps going through your legs, you can’t be shortstop. Maybe play a different position, or just be a fan."

6. Shift your perspective to reach new levels.

7. Decide who you work with and how.

8. Value maintaining your character.
