SMS for Service: How to Get Clients to Respond

Need to grab your clients' attention quickly?

Here's how to create the perfect text to get them to respond to ASAP.

1. Put Your Purpose First

Clients need to understand why you're texting them.

Be upfront about your message's purpose and why it's important. This sounds simple, but you'd be surprised how easy it is to accidently bury what matters to your client with an unnecessary intro or background details.

Always be straight to the point. Just be sure to do it in a way that doesn't look spammy. "PLEASE READ ME $$$" is going to have the exact opposite effect you want when it inevitably triggers spam filters.

2. Keep It Concise

People expect texts to be brief—they aren’t meant to be like email.

So lean toward short and sweet to keep your audience’s attention.

“Hey [Name], would you like to schedule a follow-up?”

Vs.

“[Name], it was wonderful to talk with you last week and learn more about your goals. Would you like to schedule a follow-up meeting to discuss more details about the terms of the deal?”

Staying under 160 characters is a great rule of thumb to keep your messages concise. It’s okay to go over occasionally, but be conscious of length. We have a character counter to help you watch that number whenever you’re composing messages.

The longer the text, the more likely your client is going to tune out.

3. Tell Them Who You Are

Personalized signatures can help you stand out from normal texts.

Knowing who you are, and the business you're with, can make all the difference in getting a client to take action.

Text Request makes it possible to create and attach custom signatures to your texts. Each of your reps can create their own signatures, so clients always know who they're talking to.

Signatures are especially useful if a new client doesn't have your business's number saved yet. Seeing your business's name will immediately separate your text from a stranger's.
